The City of Coronado is a small affluent beach community located on a peninsula, approximately 5 miles from downtown San Diego. The south side is connected to mainland by a 10 mile stretch of roadway named the Silver Strand. Coronado can also be accessed from the City of San Diego by the 2.1 mile long Coronado Bay Bridge. The City is rich with history and well-known for the Hotel Del Coronado built in 1886 that has been featured in many movies. The Naval Base Coronado complex is home to the Naval Air Station North Island and a training center for the Navy SEALs.

Coronado Unified School District includes elementary, middle, high school serving approximately 2,000 students. Adult education and private schools are also available.
The largest employer is the United States Navy, with Sharp Coronado Hospital and tourism coming in second. Downtown Coronado hosts unique shops and many restaurants. It is easy to get around the City by car but there are several other transportation options that include buses, bicycles, ZipCar Sharing, shuttle, and the ferry.
Coronado homes are varied in age and style. The real estate is at the high end and influenced by the many fine older homes and mansions.
Recreation for residents and tourists include three beaches and an 18-hole golf course operated by the City of Coronado. The beach facilities vary at each location but may include lifeguards, restrooms, playgrounds, and wheelchair accessibility.
