History

Orange County’s oldest and most expensive master-planned community started in 1968. At that time, developers envisioned it as a hunting lodge. In fact, that is how it started, and today the Lodge at Coto de Caza remains as evidence of the development’s original intent. During the 1984 Summer Olympics, Coto de Caza was the scene of many of the pentathlon events.

In 2008, construction of a new clubhouse was completed. The facility offers a fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment, a spa, a snack bar, and a lounge. A jointly owned project of Chevron and Arvida corporations initiated development in 1964. In 2010 there are still a very few undeveloped lots available for purchase. The community was completed in 2003.
