The Canoga Park district of Los Angeles, rumored to have gotten its name from a town in New York, was once full of small farms, agriculture, a movie studio and a stunt filming location. Today, it is a mostly suburban and diverse neighborhood in Los Angeles while still being home to a handful of film-related businesses. Canoga Park is a great place to live and has been recognized as such by the National Civic League, who gave it the prestigious All-America City Award in 2005.

Canoga Park was once home to many key players in the aerospace industry. Boeing once was headquartered here, as was Rockwell International and Teledyne. Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne is currently headquartered in Canoga Park and is a major employer within the district. For those who commute, the Canoga Metro station is on the orange line and offers several destinations.
Canoga Park is serviced by the Los Angeles Unified School District: the district has six elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school and one charter school. Canoga Park High School, actor Kevin Spacey’s alma mater, is known for its academic decathalon and robotics team. Private schools in the district include the Lutheran-based Concordia Schools, Faith Baptist Schools and AGBU High School.
For residents who enjoy fresh air, the Lanark Recreation Center is the perfect place to throw a ball around, enjoy a picnic and spend the afternoon in the playground. The recreation center has indoor basketball courts, a lighted football field and lighted tennis and volleyball courts. Locals who prefer the pool can dive in at the Lanark Pool, an outdoor pool located at the recreation center.
Shoppers can find what they are looking for, and then some, at Westfield Topanga, which is anchored by prestigious stores like Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Macy’s. Less than two blocks away is the Westfield Promenade, which high-end boutique shops such as Cartier in addition to a movie theater and seasonal skating rink.
Every year, Memorial Day is celebrated in style in Canoga Park. The community gathers for the yearly Canoga Park Memorial Day Parade, which features military marching units, antique cars, aircraft flyovers, special floats and dignitaries. Also on Memorial Day weekend, in nearby Topanga, is the Topanga Days Country Fair, which features music, arts, crafts, healers and a parade.
