Located in the northwestern part of Los Angeles County, Canyon Country is a district in the southern California city of Santa Clarita. Canyon Country’s youngest residents are served by five different school districts: Castaic Union School District (does not have a high school), Newhall School District, Saugus Union School District, Sulphur Springs School District and William S. Hart High School School District. Among the many perks of all of these school districts is the Academy of the Canyons, a public middle college high school offered in conjunction with College of the Canyons. Students attending the academy are given the opportunity to earn college credit: diligent students could earn as many credits as needed to get an associates degree. Canyon High School is known for its award-winning performing arts and strong career preparation programs. Santa Clarita is home to three colleges: California Institute of the Arts, The Master’s College and College of the Canyons.
Canyon Country residents can enjoy nature and the outdoors on many levels. The beautiful Canyon Country park offers a covered picnic area, a playground, a baseball field and community center. Canyon Country is home to the Placerita Canyon Nature Center, a beautiful preserve rich in hiking trails, birds, vegetation and history. The city of Santa Clarita has a grand total of seventeen parks throughout the city for its residents to enjoy: parks range from an aquatics center to a skate park.
With more roller coasters than anywhere else in the world, Six Flags Magic Mountain is arguably the most entertaining venue in the city. For residents who prefer the low-key lawns of a golf course, Santa Clarita has options with its numerous public and private courses. Musicians and fans should take advantage of the summer concert series held in beautiful Central Park every year: they are free for residents and take place on summer weekends. Santa Clarita’s Westfield Valencia Shopping Center has everything from a movie theater to a Macy’s store: the center also has several restaurants for hungry shoppers. The bustling city of Los Angeles is never too far as downtown Los Angeles is located a mere 39 miles away.
