Often thought of as being an independent city, Van Nuys is a neighborhood within the city of Los Angeles, California. Van Nuys is home to many small stores, grocery markets and boutiques. Just minutes from Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks is holds the Sherman Oaks Galleria, the Westfield Fashion Square and the Sherman Oaks West Whole Foods. For fans of the performing arts, the Performing Arts Center offers ballet and dance lessons and performances for the community; movie buffs can grab a show at the Regency Theatres Cineplex Plant 16. Kids of all ages love the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant, located in the heart of Van Nuys and adjacent to the busy airport. From this restaurant, diners can watch over 1,000 planes a day take off; visitors also enjoy the old airplane and decorations that adorn the facility. Residents who golf regularly visit the Van Nuys Golf Course; the course is an 18 hole, par 3 course and is fully lit at night.

The annual Sizdeh Bedar Festival, a celebration of Persians, is held each year at Lake Balboa.
