Riverside, California is the county seat for the southern California county Riverside: it is the 12th largest city in all of California and the largest in the Inland Empire area. Riverside is famous for being the birthplace of the citrus industry as well as being home to the legendary architecture of the Mission Inn. This sunny southern California city has it all: it is surrounded by mountains, is only 36 miles from the Pacific Ocean and an hour’s drive from the metropolis of Los Angeles. One fun, but lesser known, fact the locals like to note is that Riverside is home to the world’s largest paper cup as a concrete Dixie Cup marks the spot of a former Dixie Corporation manufacturing plant.

With its many employers and job opportunities, Riverside is an easy city to live and work in. The County of Riverside is the largest employer, with over 11,000 municipal employees on the payroll while the University of California, Riverside has over 5,000 employees working as educators and support staff. Medical professionals and customer care managers are attracted to working for the corporation Kaiser Permanente, which offers managed health care to its 8.9 million members and employs over 4,000 professionals.

The Riverside Unified School District serves the community with 47 different schools: 26 of these schools have been recognized as California Distinguished Schools. The district particularly excels in Mock Trial work, science fairs and Envirothon competitions. Seven private schools and two continuation schools also educate Riverside youth. The California School for the Deaf, Riverside educates deaf learners from preschool through high school. Riverside is also home to seven higher learning institutions, including: California Baptist University, California Southern Law School, La Sierra University, Riverside City College, UEI College and University of California, Riverside.
