Riverside, California is the county seat for the southern California county Riverside: it is the 12th largest city in all of California and the largest in the Inland Empire area. The Riverside Unified School District serves the community with 47 different schools: 26 of these schools have been recognized as California Distinguished Schools. The district particularly excels in Mock Trial work, science fairs and Envirothon competitions. Seven private schools and two continuation schools also educate Riverside youth. The California School for the Deaf, Riverside educates deaf learners from preschool through high school. Riverside is also home to seven higher learning institutions, including: California Baptist University, California Southern Law School, La Sierra University, Riverside City College, UEI College and University of California, Riverside.

Riverside is a city that values recreation and has over 12 lush parks for its residents to explore. The California Citrus State Historic park celebrates the citrus heritage of Riverside with demonstration groves, an activity center, inviting picnic areas and a historic museum. The popular Louis Robidoux Nature Center has trails, guided tours, classes and ponds for city residents to explore.
The only problem about finding things to do in Riverside is picking one of them! Riverside is full of museums, events, stores and restaurants. The Mission Inn, a breathtaking example of Mission Revival Style Architecture, is a must-visit for architecture buffs as is Riverside County Courthouse, done in the beaux-arts style. The Riverside Art Museum, geared toward both adults and children, puts on close to 20 exhibits each year. For those who enjoy shopping the day away, the downtown pedestrian mall is an air-filled plaza full of unique shops and eateries. The Riverside Plaza and Tyler Galleria also offer shopping and a mix of local and nationally known stores.
Riverside is home to many festivals held throughout the year. In February, the Riverside Dickens Festival brings literature to locals, with a host of workshops, readings and performances. The Riverside Air Show, in March, is a local favorite and for good reason: residents can see aircraft in action and displayed up close on land. April brings along with it the Riverside International Film Festival and features some of the finest new films from around the world. The Riverside Festival of Lights, at the Mission Inn, includes the hanging of over 3 million lights, horse-drawn carriages and seasonal ice skating.
